August 12, 2010]----Ever heard the euphemism, 'a cat has 9 lives?" Newt Gingrich, seem to have "nine lives." He has been plagued with numerous scandals throughout his professional and personal life but always seem to boomerang back, bigger and better. There's a rumor circulating that he might be throwing in his hat in the 2012 Presidential Election. He's aiming for the pinnacle, isn't he?
As most Republicans, Newt presents a Conservative view to the world. He extols the virtues of family values, God and Country, not necessarily in that order. Yet what he preaches, doesn't quite align with what he actually does.
When he shocked the political world, not only by stepping down as House Speaker, but leaving Congress altogether, everyone thought his political life was over. What with the House Ethics Committee investigation of his GOPAC's donations and the subsequent scandalous affairs and divorces.
Newt talks about Family Values but does he embrace it? According to the Conservative Right, to which Mr. Gingrich subscribes to, (in fact I think he wrote a great deal of those pages) marriage between a man and a woman and staying married, ranks high on that list.
God fearing,( especially the Christian God) love of country, fiscal responsibility and small government are some other priorities on that wholesome list.
Newt Gingrich has been divorced twice and married 3 times. According to an interview with his 2nd ex-wife, Marianne Gingrich, published in Esquire Magazine,'s September issue, they had an affair while his 1st wife was sick with ovarian cancer. The article also revealed that Newt proposed to Marianne while his then wife, Jackie was in the hospital. They then married in 1980.Family Values anyone?
After 18 years, Newt and Marianne divorced or should I say annulled their marriage in 1999. Do I smell political cunning at work here? Annullment looks better to many Catholics than divorce does.
The Esquire article stated he proposed to his 3rd wife, Callista, whom he was also having an affair with, while his 2nd wife Marianne was visiting her mother. She was also sick with multiply sclerosis. he was also still married to her. Do I see a pattern here?
According to the article he allegedly compared his wives to cars. Marianne said she was a Jaguar and the new Callista, was a Chevrolet. I guess he was "trading" up. No mention of what kind of car his was first wife was called. He and Callista were married in 2000.
Whew! Sounds like a soap opera, doesn't it? Yet Gingrich continue to preach family values and is always highly vocal with his criticism of anything he deems worthy of his moral wrath. Remember his righteous indignation at President Clinton's Oval Office "oral transgressions?"
His ex-wife Marianne said he once told her what he does and what he says are two different things, saying,"He believes that what he says in public and how he lives doesn't have to be connected. If you believe that, then yeah, you can run for president."
