Style Watch: World Cup 2010 special

England captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that he would boo the team if he was a fan going to watch Wednesday's friendly against Hungary at Wembley.

A crowd of 60,000 is expected at the north London venue to witness England's first match since their humilitating 4-1 defeat by Germany in the last 16 of the World Cup in South Africa -- and Gerrard has revealed that the players are expecting a hostile reception from some of the supporters.

Speaking at a press conference, the Liverpool midfielder said: "I probably would boo as well. We deserve it.

"We have to take it on the chin because we let the supporters down in the summer. Hopefully in time we can show we are a good team. We are desperate to make the supporters happy in the future."

England coach Fabio Capello has reacted to his team's performances this summer by naming a much changed squad -- including young Arsenal stars Jack Wilshire and Kieran Gibbs -- and Gerrard told the media he believes the Italian is correct in starting to plan for the future.

"Some of these young boys have to learn quite fast," he added. "We have all been in that situation when you are young and get thrown in at the deep end.

"The important thing is that the supporters don't drag these young fresh faces into the booing. If that is what they decide to do it is important they give it to the players who went to the World Cup.

"I have also detected a group of players who are still hurting and are desperate to put right what happened in South Africa."
