The famous U.S. actress, Patricia Neal has died at the age of 84, after a life that was full of ups and downs.

The husky-voiced actress Neal Patricia, who mainly got recognition for her powerful character in the movie, "Hud", died of lung cancer at her home in Edgartown, Massachusetts, on Sunday.

The courageous Oscar-winning actress, Patricia Neal enjoyed the peak of fame in 1963-64, but a year later suffered from a series of strokes which cut-off her acting career for two years. Although, the massive strokes left Patricia Neal semi-paralyzed, the actress didn't give up and learned to walk and talk again.

In spite of severely affected memory, Patricia Neal made a comeback to the screen in 1968 to win more Oscar and Emmy nominations. Patricia Neal played bitter mother in "The Subject Was Roses" for which she was once again nominated for an Academy Award.

Tennessee-born Patricia Neal was married to author Roald Dahl for 30 years. The last appearance of Patricia Neal on big screen was in Robert Altman's "Cookie's Fortune".
