Michigan State Police are facing one of its biggest cases in years to catch a serial killer who has repeatedly stabbed at least 13 men since mid-May, five of whom dies from their wounds. The police force is already shorthanded after losing 40 officers due to budget cuts in the financially strapped auto manufacturing city. They are asking for the public’s assistance.
The killer, described as a young and muscular white man, is roaming the streets at night and randomly knifing lone men he encounters. All but one were African-Americans. The Michigan State Police released a sketch of the killer on Friday showing him with a goatee, white T-shirt, baseball cap and a stud in his left ear.
The attacks have not been labeled as racial in nature, but there does appear to be a pattern in the selection of victims, according to city officials. Most of the victims have been elderly, disabled, small or vulnerable. Survivors told Flint police that the attacker approached them pretending to need directions or help with a broken-down vehicle.
"He then pulls a knife and attacks them without saying anything more," Flint police told The Associated Press.
