Jerry Douthett, a 48 year old man had been suffering from an infection in his big toe for a while. His wife who is a registered nurse had been bagging him for some time now to go to the doctor and get it checked out. Being the stubborn man that he is he continuously put it off and refused to go. Finally this Michigan man gave into his wife and made an appointment to go see a doctor.
One night Douthett and his wife went out to celebrate and he got to drinking. After a few too many drinks Douthett made his way home and passed out on his bed. In the middle of his sleep Jerry woke up and felt that his foot was soaked. The family dog Kiko was lying at the bottom of the bed where he was sleeping. Jerry got up and made his way to the bathroom to get a better look at what had happened. He yelled for his wife to come, once he noticed that what was wet was actually blood. They discovered that tip of the infected toe had been chewed off. At that point that looked at their dog Kiko and notice that he`s snout was covered in blood. Kiko had then while Jerry was passed out had attempted to chew out the infection.
Douthett`s wife wrapped up his foot and took him to the hospital. Once he got to the hospital doctors completed the amputation that Kiko the dog had started. After the surgery it was found that his toe had a bone infection and that Kiko had discovered Jerry undiagnosed diabetic condition, and saved his life.
