The health minister in Peru has informed the general public that a plague has so far killed a 14 year old boy, and is now infecting at least 31 other victims.
"He says the boy, who had Down syndrome, died of bubonic plague July 26."
The prognosis is optimistic, in which many cases can be cured if diagnosed quickly enough.
With four cases being pneumonic plague, bubonic plague is inflicted upon all the other cases. This is transmitted typically through the bites of flies.
The first recorded plague outbreak in Peru was in 1903. The last, in 1994, killed 35 people.
