The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named the 50 green power partners using the most renewable electricity. The Green Power Partnership’s top purchasers use more than 12 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, equivalent to the annual carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the electricity use of more than 1 million average American homes. Green Power helps to prevent emissions from conventional power sources that are linked to harmful air pollution and climate change.

The top 10 on the list are Intel Corporation, Kohl’s Department Stores, Whole Foods Market, City of Houston, Dell Inc., Johnson & Johnson, Cisco Systems, Inc., commonwealth of Pennsylvania, U.S. Air Force, and the city of Dallas.

Green power is generated from renewable resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, biogas, and low-impact hydropower. Green power resources produce electricity with an environmental profile superior to conventional power technologies and produce no net increase to greenhouse gas emissions. Purchases of green power also help accelerate the development of new renewable energy capacity nationwide.

Intel Corporation remains the partnership’s largest single purchaser of green power, using more than 1.4 billion kWh, equivalent to the CO2 emissions from the electricity use of nearly 125,000 average American homes. Washington, D.C. (No. 14), TD Bank, N.A. (No. 15), the state of Illinois (No. 23), Pearson, Inc. (No. 27), Chicago Public Schools (No. 35), and Harris N.A. (No. 42), are all making first-time appearances on the national list. BD (No. 19), a global medical technology company, and the Port of Portland (No. 49), both rose in the rankings by nearly doubling their green power purchases. Nearly a quarter of the top 50 partners have increased their green power purchases since April.

EPA’s Green Power Partnership works with more than 1,200 partner organizations to voluntarily purchase green power to reduce the environmental impacts of conventional electricity use. Overall, EPA’s green power partners are using more than 17 billion kWh of green power annually, equivalent to the CO2 emissions from electricity use of more than 1.5 million average American homes.

Green, a symbol of life, good health, and vigor, is also a color that reminds us of hope. All around the globe, the word is associated with energy conservation and environmental protection. The term “green consumption” covers a full range of activities in both production and consumption fields, including green products, the recycling of materials, the efficient use of energy, the protection of the environment, and the preservation of species. As populations grow, the needs of people in green plants will increased. And the increased of consumption of these will result to shortage. So we people must aware of all of these. Let's plant more trees and be a responsible citizen.

The concept of sustainable consumption is complex and involves a lot of sectors in the society. But it is necessary to make a realistic approach on how to help the environment without compromising a quality way of living. This approach would work if people from each involved sector would work together and put into consideration the long term benefits it will yield rather than achieving individual goals. I think the media is in the key position to promote this advocacy since people today relies heavily on what they see or hear in making decisions as to the products and services they use.

One of the best step in the progress of our nation is sustainable consumption of our natural resources. We have to make actions and determined it's facts that will help our mother earth to survive.Sustainable consumption is the use of goods and services to satisfy our basic needs and improve our quality of life, in the ways that are economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.

Nature does nothing uselessly. We should keep our nature as green as it is.

No doubt, as the growth of population is swiftly increasing, it is getting harder to meet the needs and demands of huge number of these humans. Therefore, nature is being compromised because they are being use abusively. Especially in energy consumption for it is one of the major needs of earthlings. However, because people are wise enough, they invented how to produce energy with the help of nature without compromising it. Yet, this is complex. It requires huge sums of money. But I think that if we, work together as one, it is possible if it means of saving our Mother Earth.

Population nowadays are largely increasing. As the effects of globalization are creating further disparities and inequalities around the world, we are seeing an increase in violence and human rights abuses as disputes about territories, food and water are spilling into wars and internal conflicts. People are fighting for basic needs. Providing for the next generation of consumers in a sustainable manner presents both a challenge and an opportunity. Leaders can position themselves to succeed in this changing framework by redefining their strategies. New products, services and value chains can embrace "absolute sustainability".

Everyone of us can contribute in saving the earth through "green consumption." We should know what to use and how to use them. We should learn that what we use and do contributes to our being. And our simple and somehow stupid choices can contribute badly in our environment. We should not dwell too much on little and fetish desires.

We should contribute to the Green Consumption. Green consumption is an intelligent response to many of the problems caused by our affluent society. On one level it is a way of taking personal responsibility for our impact on the planet. So, we must help each other because this is our responsibility.

Going green leads to a healthier environment and a healthier environment leads to a healthier you. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is urging everyone to shift to a “green culture,” in which environmental responsibility is everyone’s responsibility. EPA recommends making small changes at home and at work to create a greener world.
Many of the benefits of going green have indirect effects that can your health. Driving less reduces car emissions that contribute to air pollution. Air pollution can worsen the symptoms and severity of respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Recycling and using energy efficiently and wisely conserves limited resources so that they can be used where most needed. These uses include efforts to provide food, shelter and healthcare.

I agree. I'd also like to see more industry changes. We could use our garbage to dreate ethanol rather than pollute the earth by putting it a landfill for decades, even hundreds of years. Any carbon based waste product in today's garbage can by converted to ethanol, even disposabe diapers, which are cotten and polycarobonae materail. We need to make sure every community recycles. So many cities don't even offer that option. Marion County, home to Indianapolis and the Governor, does not recycle and that sends a lazy, bad message to the rest of the state!

It is very nice to know that we have green partners, which are conserving energy that is very essential in human lives..

Promoting renewable energy is a very good campaign, I an hoping that there would be a lot more society or groups to join them.. going green for our mother nature, why not..

This is what we tackle in my Economics class. We have unlimited wants and needs and the nature only has scarce resources to satisfy our wants and needs. Given that entrepreneurs and businessmen only think of profits and how to maximize their consumer's satisfaction, they don't care about how their misuse of goods and resources affect the environment. As concerned citizens, we should encourage our businessmen to use environmentally-friendly practices while doing business. In that way, humans and nature both benefit the business.

Also, it is nice to know that there are corporations which are now giving back to nature by promoting ecological awareness programs and building eco-friendly infrastructures. This will, in a way, help in "mending nature". :)

Basically, going green means to live life, as an individual as well as a community, in a way that is friendly to the natural environmental and is sustainable for the earth.

It means contributing towards maintaining the natural ecological balance in the environment, and preserving the planet and its natural systems and resources.
