How to start as an online writer? Simple, anyone can become an online writer. If you have the passion to write, then online writing can be an interesting hobby, source of income or even a career. The internet density has never been greater than today, more and more web content is produced by online writers every single day; learn how to start as an online writer.

Find a Niche or Better Even Two

Find a few fields of expertise. Forming a readers base is needed, people that come back to your work over and over again, people who connect to your profile via a RSS feed, which now means you are getting the same readers for all your new articles, this will provide guaranteed page views. Having one or two niches is not a problem; it gives a good edge.

Don’t be Scared, Start To Write

When writing do not be afraid, as nothing has been published yet, it is just you, your pen(keyboard) and your paper (screen). Use a fresh file for every new article, start with a title and write a small summary of the original idea, write some headlines to focus in on during the story. Every good story starts with a short intro and at the end a conclusion, everything in between is called the body of the text. Find a suitable picture for every text written, or even better is to produce your own graphics. Number every article and enter it in a database.

Online Publishing

There are plenty of online platforms to publish work, some specialize in sports, some in technical stuff, some in news. Find which platform works, and stay with them. Some platforms have very high standards, but when they do, normally their pay-plan is solid too. Large online publishing platforms are Suite 101, Bukisa, Allvoices, Associated Content, Helium and Technorati.

Blogging

Blogging is a world in its own, where as in online publishing platforms opinion often is not welcomed, in a blog you can write what you want, how you feel, or how you would like to respond. But being a professional blogger, better stay true to journalistic standards, and keep writing in the third person, using perfect grammar and punctuation, only then a readers base will be build. Popular blogging platforms are www.blogger.com and www.wordpress.com.

Create a Format For Work

Make sure that all the work produced is in the same format

  • Keywords
  • Short overview
  • Title
  • Intro
  • Body text
  • Summary

Bringing consistency in the format will be appreciated by readers, they know what to expect, and publishers can see the quality of work as well.

Build a Database

Having a good overview of all articles is crucial, hand written or in a computer database, because soon there are hundreds of articles and ideas and you lose the overview. Number all work, categorize it, show the progress level and where it was published and the publication date. Create your own database with all your own ideas on how to keep track of your creative work.

Success Comes Through Persistency and Consistency

Don’t think that one or three articles will bring richness. Persistency and writing every day will bring the glory. Consistency will bring the success you are looking for and with that the dollars that come with it. Whether producing one article per day or five, stay true to yourself, set realistic goals and keep doing them for at least 90 days. Only then it will show what worked and what did not.

The internet density has never been greater than today, more and more web content is produced by online writers every single day. Make online writing your hobby, source of income or career.
