Strip Your Way to Fitness

July 29, 2010 Scotland]------A Pole dancing school in Scotland, is offering classes for children as a fitness option.

The school, which is called Up yer Pole, and has been operating since 2002,will soon be offering pole dancing for kids ages 9 to 16, in an effort to help fight childhood obesity.

According to an aritcle by ParentDish, Up Yer Pole website advertises that the classes, which will cost $8 for one hour, will teach exercises using "strength, balance, flexibility and gymnastic based moves in a safe and fun environment."

In other words, children will get to learn all the rudiments of sliding up and down a pole, while losing weight at the same time. What parent wouldn't embrace this wholesome activity with positive benefits!

Children are even allowed to wear sneakers instead of the usual lucid high heels and thongs suited for this kind of activity. Hmmmmm.

Any parents out there thinks this is a perfectly fine, appropriate workout for their child/children?

I would hope that eventually they could move from poles to other implements of gymnastics. I'd also like to think the parents might consider taking the kids for a walk now and then.

I agree......take the kids outside to run, jump, skip and if they want to slide...go down the slide in the playground.Children on pole dancing just shouldn't mix.

I...I don't think that's a good idea. 0.o Wow, I understand adults using pole dancing for fitness, but not kids...

I agree...that's crossing the line and merging adult activities with children's.

Its unfortunate that the world of pornography has tainted the simple form of gymnastics. Sure, you won't see this at the Olympics, but its basic form is gymnastics. Sex comes second. Lots of people practice pole dancing because of its health benefits. I don't imagine they always wear high heels and thongs either. People belly dance because its cultural, not just because its provocative. Really, our prejudices, ignorances, and closed mindedness ruin good things.

I hope that these students enjoy their class, that they benefit from it in the way that they are supposed to, and that it inspires them to explore gymnastics further. Hopefully having classes like this will bring pole dancing into a better place. I mean, it's not like they have wonderful skill competitons based on ability and not seductivity.

Let's be real..pole dancing is synonymous with sex and seduction. We are not talking about Olympic style gymnastics here. If you want your child to take up gymnastics, you take them to a gymnasium not a school for pole dancing.

Lol. I'm not laughing at the article, or your viewpoint, no. I'm laughing at the absurdity of western culture. We are insane. I expect hardcore porn will be available on basic cable w/in the next 2-3 years. Great, heads up, article.
