Talk about bipartisanship. Both parties believe that when it comes to deficit spending money for wars does not count. Ordinarily Republicans would be asking where the money would come from for funding these wars. Not so at least with few exceptions. This might as well have been a Republican bill. Republicans voted for it by 160 to 12. But even the Democrats voted for it by a considerable majority with 148 in favor versus 102 opposed. Now that is bipartisanship.

33 billion from the bill will go directly to fund the Obama surge in Afghanistan. The release of the Wikileaks documents was dismissed as old news and irrelevant. No doubt there will be attempts to make sure that there are no new leaks about the new and improved Obama campaign in Afghanistan. Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich were the main bi-partisan politicians voting against the funding.

The role call on the issue can be found here.

The Pentagon has been complaining about delays and warned of dire consequences if their entitlements were delayed. As usual, they got their way. When it comes to military funding bipartisanship is a breeze.

Obama was able to easily pass a 59 billion emergency funding bill for the Afghan surge plus other defense expenditures. The Republicans voted overwhelmingly in favor.
