The Egyptian government was forced to intervene after a 92 year old man attempted to wed a 17 year old girl. Egyptian law maintains that one spouse cannot be more than 25 years older than the other. The law was put into effect during the Gulf oil boom to protect young Egyptian women from being trafficked by wealthy oil lords. A loophole does exist, however; if the husband deposits a substantial sum of money in his wife's name, he is exempt from the age obstacle.
