It has been discovered that the parents of a five-month-old baby boy who was found drowned in a flat in Kilmarnock were receiving support from social workers for drug problems.

The baby's death, which occured at about 2025 BST on Friday, is being treated by the police as 'unexplained'.

It is understood that the baby was once listed on Easy Ayrshire's Council's risk register after his parents were convicted for possession of heroin, but had been taken off it.

A post-morterm is due to be held on Tuesday, and a significant cause review will be initiated by the council.
