$800,000 of PEI Government money was used to bring the two world famous television icons-and - to the nearly unknown province of Edward Island to shoot four of their shows, which airs on the American channel .
Was it worth the money? "Prince Edward Island will have an extraordinary opportunity to build its overall brand when it is featured this summer on one of the most popular talk shows in North America," said Prince Edward Island Premier Robert Ghiz. Many Islanders think that Government certainly got its money's worth; the very popular show, Live! With Regis and Kelly, reaches out to millions of people across the United States, giving the Island huge exposure- which will aid in the Island's tourism industry as the show explains the many things Prince Edward Island has to offer for its visitors. Millions of viewers for each show at a price of $800,000? You be the judge! In fact, 'Prince Edward Island' ranked #2 most researched on Google after their first show aired from the Island! The PEI Government is prepared to see a change in their tourism, which seems to already have started.
Regis and Kelly taped two live shows and two previously taped shows July 12 and 13, at Charlottetown's Confederation Landing Park. The shows aired Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (July 12-15). Some of the guests on the show include Twilight's and Nurse Jackie'sPeter Facinelli,, and , and , and Carson Kressley of True Beauty.
The show gave local restaurants and businesses the opportunity to get a wide range of viewers; every show a different chef of a local restaurant would present one of their meals for the hosts to try (which was mostly seafood), convincing Regis that "Seafood isn't so bad." The show finished off with a "Beach Bash" on PEI's Crowbush Beach.
Citizens of Prince Edward Island hope that the show will impact their tourism industry forever, especially since the Government won't be willing to pay another $800,000 on tourism for a long time to come. Prince Edward Island was once a virtually unknown place in Atlantic Canada- finally, that has been changed for good.
