Germans Eat Paul The Octopus

GERMANY ENGLAND PUBLIC VIEWING WORLD CUP

Paul The Octopus was proven right yet again when Spain ousted Germany from World Cup contention yesterday, but this time, Germans weren’t singing the cephalopod prophet’s praises. Instead, bitter fans are scouring the Internet for octopus recipes, Der Spiegel reports. “Hey Frank,” said one customer in a Berlin restaurant as the game ended, “I could do with some octopus right now. You have any back in the kitchen?” The chef shook his head. “They were sold out,” he said.

German Twitter and Facebook accounts were awash in octopus recipes. “Grill the octopus oracle. Throw Paul in the saucepan,” tweeted one. “Into the deep fryer!” agreed another. A few kinder posters suggested that Paul's talents should be put to better use, predicting, for example, currency movements for the government. The octopus is 6-for-6 in predicting Germany’s games this world cup, after going 4-for-5 in Euro 2008.
