Mumbai, India - A successful former Miss Mauritius, actress, supermodel and part-time fashion co-ordinator Viveka Babajee committed suicide by hanging herself in her Khar apartment on Friday, according to Police in the Indian Western region of Mumbai.
Babajee, who featured in several advertisements and a couple of Bollywood films between 2000 and 2004, was suffering from depression and a bad break up with her boyfriend, it is learnt. The police have recovered a suicide note from the house.
According to the police, Babajee who was living alone in Mumbai, had shifted base to Mauritius a couple of years ago.
Neighbors were concerned on Friday that Babajee did not answer her doorbell despite repeated attempts, and the odor of gas coming from the apartment. “Finally, the neighbors alerted the police who rushed to the spot and broke open the door. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan,” said Amitabh Gupta, vice commissioner of police, Western region.
Viveka Babajee was 37-years-old.
