William Allen Kruse, 55, charter boat captain in the gulf shores of Alabama, committed suicide, Wednesday. He was recently hired by BP. Kruse died of a head shot wound, likely self inflicted; states authorities.

Kruse went to work on his boat, "The Rookie," Wednesday morning as usual. As deckhands went to fetch ice; they heard what sounded like firecrackers. They returned to find Kruse at the wheelhouse on the captain's bridge. He apparently sent the men away and then shot himself.

Friends and colleagues state that Kruse was despondent about the gulf oil crisis. He was depressed over the economic and ecological conditions the BP spill has caused. A glock handgun was found later near the scene. Investigators found no incidence of foul play.

Truly a sad story. Unfortunately the economic stress put on too many folks dependent on clean and vibrant Gulf waters will take a tragic toll. I fear more instances like this will follow.

You can only hope that more won't resort to this type of way out. The ecologic, environmental and economical times are taking a toll on a lot.
