[TX] Son of Dallas police chief believed shooter of Lancaster officer and bystander

Lancaster--In a CBS 11 news report, Officer Craig Shaw, 37, and Jeremy McMillian, 23, were killed by the son of Dallas' police chief, during a shootout Sunday at an apartment complex at the 900 block of River Bend Drive.

A prayer vigil for the victims will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. located at First United Methodist Church of Lancaster at 201 South Dallas Avenue in Lancaster, Texas.

Shaw was the father of two children: 13-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy; and he served the Lancaster Police Department for 5 years.

Lancaster Police Chief Keith Humphrey said he was on the best people: he was very caring, very giving, selfless and a hard worker.

"He was an outstanding man. This community has lost a good officer. A very good officer," Humphrey said. "He gave his life doing what he took pride in."

Officer Shaw's wake visitation will be held at the Inspiring Body of Christ, Pastor Ricky Ross, at 7701 South Westmoreland Road in Dallas, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday. The funeral will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the same location. Jeremy McMillian's funeral will be held at the Potters House, Bishop T.D. Jakes, 6777 Keist Boulevard in Dallas, at 11 a.m. on Friday.

Officer Shaw was responding to a shooting in progress at the apartments on River Bend; meanwhile, Jeremy McMillian, was already dead on the scene.

When Officer Shaw arrived on the scene, someone opened fire on the Lancaster officers. Shaw was killed from a gunshot wound in the head, which was later witnessed on his police car dash camera.

This person was later confirmed as the Dallas Chief of Police David Brown's son, David O'Neal Brown, Jr., who was charged with suspicion of selling marijuana in 2003 in Waxahachie, Texas.

Lancaster officers shoot back and killed Brown, 27. During a press conference on Monday, Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez said there were several guns involved, but he is not sure how many were involved.

"There were several weapons involved in this incident, and at this time we are attempting to clarify where each weapon came from, and which was used for each incident," Valdez said.

A witness told CBS 11 News, Brown, who was only wearing boxing shorts, when he shot McMillian as he sat in his car. McMillian's girlfriend and baby were also inside the car at the time, but not injured. McMillian's girlfriend said Brown's gun jammed.

A fund has been set up for Officer Shaw's family at Chase Bank in his name - Craig Shaw.
