This is my very first blog...I have been toying with the idea to write one for a little while now and finally have mustarded up the courage to do it. You may ask why I say it takes "courage", It takes courage because I don't plan to write about just any ole thing. I plan to write about things that are real...whether it be something that is real in my life...such as Life experiences, Emotions, etc. Or I may write about something I learned about God. My point is that I intend to bare my soul in a sense and to be transparent and honest is sometimes hard.
However, before I get started on my first topic I want to cover a little housekeeping points... What I mean is that I want to explain that I may not spell everything perfectly, or use the perfect grammer or punctuation, but I hope you will focus on my words, not grade my essay! I agree grammer and what not is important but when you have an idea flowing from your finger tips you best write it down as soon as possible or you may lose it.... So I will do the best I can but I hope you will be a forgiving audience!
Now...drum roll please....lol...My first topic is about your "Word". Remember above where I said that it is sometimes hard to tell the truth and be transparent with people...well your "Word" or "Words" are so important when trying to be honest or making an agreement. Your words are also vital when it comes to witnessing to the lost. What most people forget though is that even when your not purposely witnessing you still technically are witnessing. Let me explain, if you claim to be a Christian but yet you are out with your friends and aren't demonstrating Christian like behavior then your giving them the wrong message. Your actions and words are one in them same, though at the end of the day your actions out way what you say. Which is actually my point. What you say your going to do needs to be what you really do. I am a prime example of someone who says alot of things they are going to do, whether it be literally or jokingly. If I say something, whether I mean it or not, I am held accountable for it. And so are you.... Think about the passage below...
This is James 3:9-11
9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt[a] water flow from the same spring?
We can't claim to be a christian and talk like a sailer, we can't claim to be a christian and sit at the bottom of a beer funnel weekend after weekend. I have tried to lead this double life...at the end of the day your not only lying to others but your lying to yourself and to God. Now I'm not saying that if you drink your going to Hell or anything like that, I'm just saying you can't be a part of both crowds. You can't be the holy-roller Christian and the Party Animal too. It just doesn't work.
Point 2: Your word is you. What you say defines who you are, and you will stand before God someday and be questioned about what you say to people and what you do.
In writing this blog I am thinking so hard about every word because I know I'm accountable for what I say and stand to be persecuted for my words.
I chose this topic as my first blog because I feel its a area I personally struggle with...I am the joker, the loud mouth, the one who will stand up for herself, the one who has demanded attention in the past. I dont want to be that person anymore, or atleast not as I have been in the past. Not in the same sense. Though I may have been joking or didn't mean something I may have said, I still said it. I still hurt someone's feelings...I still disappointed someone when I broke a commitment...I still did all these things.
Your word is what binds you. So my goal for myself now is to be careful what I say, Be mindful of the promises and commitments I make. To not say anything I wouldn't want to stand before God and defend. Now Yes I realize that we all make mistakes and things will slip out but that is what forgiveness is about. I have to make a wholehearted effort though to change. I feel this is something we as humans will forever battle but it is something that can be improved upon. I couldn't find the passage but the Bible says our tongue is a double edged sword, the Devil loves to get us to say things we don't mean. Don't let your own sword cut you!
