According to the 2010 Trafficking in Persons Report published by the US State Department on June 14, Kosovo was identified as source, transit and destination country for woman and children, victims of the human trafficking and especially the forced prostitution.

The majority of the trafficking victims are women from the Eastern Europe, including Moldova, Albania, Bulgaria and Serbia, the Serbian daily Politika reported referring to Pristina-based media.

Women and children were found as subjects of forced prostitution in Kosovo and Europe wide, it was stated.

According to the reports of non-governmental organizations, more than 300 children, in particular Roma, were forced to begging.

The report of the American administration said “the Kosovo government didn’t follow the minimal measures to eliminate for the trafficking elimination”.

Kosovo is a poor place so human trafficking and prostitution is found a lot in such places. I am not surprised to see this.

Albanians have a bad name in certain Western countries for some high profile guys who are the kings of human trafficing and forced prostitution in Europe. Truely sad.

For you information it is nothing to do with Albanians. It is not that Kosova/o is poor place but becuse the NATO is there it is called push and pull factor. Before the war, there was very little prostitution, soon after the war ended in June 1999, and when UN troops were deployed, prostitution as a phenomenon had reached an alarming point. Based on the local NGO s and UNICEF report, Kosovo has now become a desirable destination for the purpose of sexual exploitation. An inefficient and biased law enforcement system, corruption and the short distance from the post-communist countries with large supplies of desperate women, made it easy for the criminal network to begin to operate.

An estimated 2,000 women have been coerced into sex slavery in Kosovo since the arrival of KFOR in 1999, with pimps supplying the thriving industry of forced prostitution by abducting local girls or trafficking women into Kosovo, mainly from Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, and Russia.
After 1999 there was a sudden wave of foreign women entering the country. One the woman’s NGO representatives said: “You could stand at the check point and see taxi after taxi passing the border with Moldavian and Bulgarian women inside"

Education is one major--and accessible--solution to this horrific issue.

This is just another part of a bad cloud you serbs are trying to create over Kosovo.

Your way of writing confirms that. First of all, you had to go and search accros the oceans, all the way to the US State Department for some bad news, and then you chose only Kosovo, how about some other countries for comparison?

Kosovo today prides itself of having the strongest police and special units forces compared with the surrounding countries and most of the incidents are found to be incited from the neighbouring residents or other foreigners. It is true that there is a lot of roma beggars on the streets, but they are there because Kosovars give.
