[June 12]--Brazilian law enforcement canooed more than 2 hours through the rugged terrain of Northeastern Peru this week to arrest a 54-year old man accused of fathering his own grand-children. It was reported that Jose Agostinho Bispo Pereira had been molesting his 29-year old daughter since she was age 12, with seven children to verify. His older daughter, age 31, escaped with only one child to show.
His grand-children were quite confused when rescued, due to their lack of exposure to the modern world, or even their own village. They had no inclination as to what a car looked like. Chief Laura Barbosa found that the children were malnourished and the living conditions were unfortunate.
The children are now under the care of child services, social workers, and child psychologists. Pereira was arrested but there has been no mention of a trial.
As in most hostage cases, the hostage becomes attached to their captor and, in this instance, Pereira's 29-year old daughter still claims to be fond of her father.
