This has been a hot topic for years now, should we legalize marijuana or not, everyone has their opinion, but not everyone has some much needed facts. For the select few of you who live under a rock and have no T.V., radio, or any other device that transmits news, marijuana is a very mild hallucinogen. It has similar affects to your body as drinking, meaning, it will make depression and anxiety suddenly flee from your body like the releasing of doves. It will relax you, calm your nerves, and basically make you forget about all life's problems, if only for a short time.
What you may not know is that in 1988 it is reported that marijuana sales hit 41.6 billion, yes billion with a B, all of that of-course was untaxed. Since then annual marijuana sales vary but average out to about 45-50 BILLION a year. If those sales were taxed, we're talking about somewhere around 1-2 billion dollars in sales tax. You can't deny that an economy with 1-2 billion dollars floating around in it wouldn't help at all. So not only is it great for the economy in this, a bad time for the country as a whole. It's also not very dangerous.
If you were to look at the Coroner's annals of history, you would not find 1 single death from marijuana overdose. NOT 1. So we, the U.S.A., can sell cigarettes which are responsible for over 400,000 deaths per year, however a plant that is responsible for 0 is blasphemy? It's 2010, take a look around, almost everyone smokes marijuana from time to time, they're called recreational smokers. Police officers do it, your neighbor, your priest, your child. There is nothing wrong with the occasional hit of marijuana.
There are far worse things in this world that you could be doing, like drinking. Drinking is yet another horrid example of what could happen when you have too much of a good thing. By smoking marijuana you will not beat on your wife, you won't yell and hit your children for no reason at all, you won't puke all over the place, you won't make a horrible decision and try driving when you know you shouldn't.
So to all you nay sayers out there, just relax, calm down, look up the facts before you criticize, and take a hit.
