According to the Liberal Israeli newsagency Haaretz, Hamas is refusing to allow aid from the Israeli raided flotilla entry into Gaza.

Ahmed al-Kurd, Social Welfare Minister in the Hamas government has given condtition to Israel before the cargo can enter. They are:

Israel must release all of the activists detained after Israel's interception of the Gaza-bound convoy and transfer all, not just part, of the seized cargo, Kurd said.

Ahmed al-Kurd also said that since the aid was organized by Turkey, it was that country that should decide which aid should be allowed into the Gaza strip.

Israel officials said that eight trucks loaded with goods from the flotilla were stuck at the Gaza crossing at Kerem Shalom. The Israeli official also denied reports that Israel had confiscated goods. He said they were still unloading cargo.

Prior to Monday's raid Israel had made the offer to activists to transfer goods to Gaza should they abandon their quest for entering Hamas controlled territory and diverted to Ashdod.

According to Haaretz when the offer was rejected, Israefrom l intercepted the convoy, in international waters, approximately 60 km offshore.

Can the Hamas give terms to get materials that aid them when Israel does not have to even hand it to them?

The point is that the blockade is illegal so Israel has no right to pick and choose what to deliver. By accepting the aid from Israel rather than the aid group Hamas would be recognizing the legitimacy of the blockade. For this reason Hamas is willing to refuse aid even in the face of international condemnation.

Whether or not the blockade is legal or illegal depends whose legal opinion you get. Neither you and I are lawyers so I leave that to the experts of international law. Both sides are behaving like kids. One side is sick of rockets and missiles getting tossed at them, the other refuses to accept Israel's right to exist and claims to be the victim. There are no innocents here on either side. Ideological divides won't solve this problem. Neither will constant provocation.

What's needed now is leadership by the permanent members of the security council and the White House. I am not sure we get it from either one.

By the time the experts get down to doing anything the whole place will be a mess. This has nothing to do with law; its just politics but I agree with you, in that leadership is the key to the solution but who has the courage to clear up the mess? Not the White house and you can be sure that the Israelis will not respect any security council interference.

You're absolutely right it's politics and ideological divides, while the lives of the little people is being played with. I have just updated my other story Israel Rejects International Investigation which reports on telephone conversations that Netanyahu had with Allies. It links to a Haaretz article which is quite detailed.

I don't agree that Hamas won't allow the aid in because that would mean legitimizing the blockade of Gaza.

This is done to further complicate the problem, to cause suffering in Gaza, and then to turn around and blame Israel for it.

The whole point is that Israel's inspection of incoming aid does not have to interfere with the delivery of the aid.

Yes, Hamas does not want the blockade to be recognized as legitimate, as not causing any hardship on the people of Gaza. So, to muddy the waters Hamas acts as if allowing the Infidels, the "dhimmi", the non-believers in Islam, to inspect the ships, is a problem.

The problem is simple.

Gaza is a land-for-peace deal that produced no peace, but rather increased the danger militarily for Israel.

If land-for-peace cannot work, then I really don't see the point of negotiating with Hamas because they are Islamic hard-liners who want Israel destroyed, while negotiating with the PLO means nothing, since they do not have any real power anymore.
