A 28-year-old women in Andhra Pradesh [130 km from Hyderabad], delivered a baby on the road after she was denied treatment at a hospital, as she was HIV positive.

The woman had sought help at a government hospital for her delivery on Sunday. She was shifted to the observation room once they realized that she was HIV positive and doctors were reluctant to attend her.

Finally, the women left thinking she would get help elsewhere and worried that her HIV status will be known by people at the hospital and the people in her village.

Two doctors from the hospital have been suspended for negligence of duty, the mother and her son have been housed at a community health centre for HIV patients.
