The RCMP in Central British Columbia were up to their elbows in Cannabis over the weekend. On Friday they busted 3 people with 18,000 marijuana plants at a sophisticated "Grow -Op" in Prince George. And just today, 200 miles south in Williams Lake, they arrested 5 people when they raided another high tech grow-op and took possesion of another 9,000 pot plants! They also confiscated $500,00 worth of equipment including 2 diesel generators. RCMP figure this "crop" was worth a potential $5,000,000.
With the BC forest industry still in a slump..it seems many are turning their attention to a more profitable crop! We hear a lot about guns and murder and mayhem on the Mexican-US border when it comes to drugs and smuggling. Here in BC it seems to be cash-strapped businessmen and entrupenerial gangs that make the most of the nation's appetite for Marijuana.
With busts like this becoming more prevelant, many believe it is time to end the prohibition and illegality of this "cash crop" and start regulating and taxing this huge underground industry. The "War" on this gentle herb is lost.
In BC... the underground Bud is King!
