A mistake in the bullring has got a Spanish matador fighting for his life as Julio Aparicio has been transferred back to intensive care this week in Madrid, Spain.
The encounter happened on May 23, 2010, and Aparicio has undergone reconstructive surgery on his throat, mouth and palate. The 1,168 pound bull drove his right horn through Aparicio’s throat and out of his mouth.
The incident took place during the Festival of Saint Isidro, considered to be the most important event in the bullfighting calendar, at the Plaza de Toros las Ventas bullring, which can seat up to 24,000 people.
An infection forced Aparicio to return to the hospital and the hospital has described his condition as grave but stable.
