A unique art work by conceived and co-ordinated by artists Amy Franceschini and Myriel Milicevic is taking place in Loughborough, UK. The artists are part of the internationally acclaimed artists collective Futire Farmers.
Beneath The Pavement A Garden brings together artists, environmentalists, gardeners, poets and academics to transform a plot of land on the Loughborough University campus into an edible landscape which reflects social and political systems.
The piece will encourage this diverse group of people to explore local and issues around food production and grapple with the task of deciding how to plant up gardens that illustrate or bring to mind political systems.
The work asks us to consider just what will a garden that reflects Maoist or fascist ideology look like?
Before designing and planting of the gardens goes ahead Franceschini and Milicevic will take participants on a coach tour of local food producers and networks, including meetings with key politicians and environmentalists. The aspect of getting to grips with issues locally as the first step to acting globally will be at the heart of the work.
The piece is commissioned by and for RADAR Lougborough who are committed to bringing internationally acclaimed artists to Loughborough and make the link between the academic life of Loughborough University with the wider local community through high quality artistic intervention and works.
Participants include guerrilla gardening leader Sarah Ferrier of Leicester's F-Troop, RADAR director Nick Slater and artist Rebecca Beinart.
