As oil from the recent oil drilling rig disaster and subsequent massive oil spill has dumped millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, experts have been seeking any way possible to clean up the mess before the oil reaches shore and does any more harm to the environment.

Matter of Trust has found an environmentally safe and economic way to clean up the oil - hair!

Known as hair booms - excess hair, that found on the floor of any barber shop or hair salon, is stuffed into nylon stockings. The hair is absorbent, it will slurp up the oil and the hair boom can be disposed of; since the boom is biodegradable there is no worry about harming the environment.

Great video and an innovative/organic idea. I don't trust those "dispersal" agents anymore than the oil itself! Just don't think about training little fur seals from Newfoundland to swim down to the Gulf and then running them thru a car wash after!!

A really interesting video. It might take a lot of hair though to soak up the Gulf spill. Sorry I can't help. My top hair is almost gone and I just won't give up my beard!

I saw a news clip from San Francisco and they had A LOT of hair, even some fur; they seemed to have it covered pretty well. But you are right, ti is gong to take a whole lot of hair to clean up that mess!
