Arizona spells out that racial profiling not allowed

In the wake of worldwide condemnation Arizona modifies immigration law

Although it has not received as much attention as the passage of the original immigration law, Arizona has made changes in the law.

Gov. Brewer signed a bill that specifically bans making arrests based on color, race or national origin, KVOA TV of Tucson reported.

"It says officers shall not use race, color, national origin as a reason for contact," said Pinal County Sheriff Babeau said. "This should satisfy everyone's concerns. There will be no racial profiling."

Brewer said, "People need to take a breath. They need to see just exactly what our laws actually say, and look at it realistically and read them and understand them. All this hype is unfortunate."

"They were on a cliff. They took a step back. But they're still on the ledge," said Tucson U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva. He still believes the law will be thrown out because only the federal government can make laws on immigration.

"This law represents the most racist law in recent history," Garcia said. "It's anti-human, anti-constitutional, anti-civil rights in our country, and we will not stand for it,” said activist Isabel Garcia.

Hate to break it to Raul, but the U.S. already has a law on immigration and this state law actually only codifies the federal law in essence. But what Brewer says, and what local authorities do are two different things since this hasn't cured the overall problem - the open borders and increases in crime that have resulted due to those open borders.

And it is the major drug dealers, and auto thieves that have the money to hire the lawyers to beat those raps, and remain then in the community.

So this all all so much rhetoric and political face-saving for both parties at election time, and nothing more - since most of these legislators actually get most of their donations in Arizona from the lawyers, just as in every other state, and they wrote the bill for their own welfare.

And there is no teeth in this law or "backtrack" making those officers personally liable for any civil rights violations, so it will be the Arizona citizens once again paying for those lawyers and those multi-million dollar suits that will result from their incarcerations in tent city and what goes on there - who are already bankrupt from several such suits in the past ten years.

What a bunch of self-serving tools.

And Raul's comments just go to show how far removed he is also from the front lines, and what is occurring in Arizona.

Or what a political opportunist he is, as are all of them.

Even if the changes in the law state what should be obvious in a free society, the question of "reasonable suspicion" still remaines unanswered. I have to join with those who believe this will be deemed unconstitutional based on preemption.
