Somalia: Humanitarian officer gunned down in Afgoi district

Unidentified armed men have overnight assassinated Mohammed Mayow Mohammed an officer of a local NGO by the name Hijra at Afgoi district in lower shabelle region in southern Somalia some 30km west of the Somali capital Mogadishu.

Hijra the local NGOs operate in Afgoi district and its surrounded areas, and provide food, shelter and clean water to the Internal Displaced peoples in Afgoi and its surrounding areas.

The deceased Mayow was the former deputy principal of Hormuud Telecommunication Company in Afgoi district.

“The deceased has ever been benevolence person who always helps the poor people, and has never been rude to people whatever level they are” said Garad Ali a resident in Afgoi district who deeply knows the conducts of late Mayow.

By the time of the assassination late Mayow was heading towards his residential area as eye witness have verified for Somaliweyn website.

Till know the motive behind the killing of the humanitarian officer and who killed him is mystery.

So far the Islamist administration of Hizbul-Islam has not yet commented about the killing of the officer.

There were several killings which have taken place in Afgoi district carried out by the Hizbul-Islam themselves and the one which haunts the brains of the residents of Afgoi district is the killing of a doctor who was killed only to put out a piece of cigarette he was smoking, and when he has resisted to put out a young boy from the Hizbul-Islam shot the doctor on the spot.
