April 27, 2010; New Delhi:

It seems that Pranab Mukherjee has got upper hand on Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Pranab Mukherjee, Finance Minister of India has emerged as "Hero" in the parliament defeating both the cut motions brought by BJP and CPI (M) against his budget proposals. It is not a victory of congress or its president Sonia Gandhi and young leader Rahul Gandhi but clearly of Pranab Mukherjee.

Pranab Mukherjee has shown excellence in making political strategy and floor management in the parliament. The communist parties could hardly predict ditch by their friends Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal. Both Mulayam Singh Yadav and Lalu Prasad Yadav abstained from voting. It is to be noted that Both RJD and SP withdrew support from UPA government recently.

Mayavati declared their clear support to UPA government and 21 MPs of Bahujan Samaj Party voted against cut motion. It was expected that her party would abstain from voting.

The UPA won the battle by margins of 84 and 88 votes in cut motions brought by BJP and CPI(M) respectively. All these were results of strategic management of Pranab Mukherjee. Neither Sonia Gandhi nor Rahul Gandhi interfered into the matter. Pranab Mukherjee cancelled his US trip to manage the episode in Indian parliament.

Rahul Gandhi was involved in bitter rivalry against Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayavati in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Lalu Prasad Yadav in Bihar to recover ground for congress. He was overwhelmed by the positive response of the voters. However, he seems to be a novice in politics. it was Pranab Mukherjee, who could assume the situation and acted accordingly.

Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi did not utter a single word during the entire period. Both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi remained silent in the IPL controversy. It is the political intelligence of Pranab Mukherjee that could bailout UPA from the embarrassing situation.

This episode has clearly lower down positions of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in congress party and Pranab Mukherjee, finance minister of India and senior most congress leader has emerged as a "Hero". it is to be noted that he handled the situation emerged because of Shashi Tharoor. Shashi Tharoor was called on by Pranab Mukherjee several times before resigning.

Will Pranab Mukherjee be the next Prime Ministerial candidate from congress party or president of the congress party? Chances are great!
