Head's up, Arizona: This is Fascism!

Thanks to Arizona, the United States may be the laughingstock of the world now after the passage of its latest borderline-racist and almost certainly unconstitutional law: SB1070.

"Show me your papers!" --a phrase that has become the hallmark of Nazism. Saturday Night Live names the dynamic in the video clip on the left sidebar at the top of this post.

Meanwhile, a US citizen is the first to try out life under Arizona's new law. An honest American truck driver was arrested and handcuffed in Phoenix because he was unable to produce identification.

Get ready. This is life in the New America. (Now...where did I put my birth certificate?)

#2 Congressman Luis Gutierrez joined SB1070 protesters at a Rally in Phoenix on Sunday, April 24th. Many local and national leaders, including Border Action Network Director Jennifer Allen, spoke at this rally against the new law. View an excerpt of Allen's remarks in the video posted at the top of this page.

--Allen cites the extensive opposition to the legislation

--"it was essentially a mandate to local police to do what they don't want to do: to use racial profiling to have a backdoor way to take on the responsibility of enforcing federal immigration law."

--Over 80000 signatures were delivered against the bill. Phone calls came in at a ratio of 11 to 1 against it.

--"...this law will not work in Arizona. Arizonans won't stand for it."

--Legal challenges will be filed: "The courts will toss it out."

--The law is "illegal, immoral, unjust." We will not comply!
