New Delhi: Union cabinet minister Kamalnath set target of road construction in India for 12 to 13 KM everyday in the year 2010-11. Pranab Mukherjee, finance minister of India allocated budget of about Rs. 200 billion for road construction in his budget proposal 2010-11. It is an increase of approximately 13 percent over last year's budget.

Kamalnath told that his target for the five year plan is to construct 20 KM of roads everyday. He spelled that roads will be constructed in public-private partnership. India needs private investment of Rs. 2,000 billion ($40 B) to achieve the target. It is required to boost infrastructure development of India.

India has the second largest network of the roads in the world with a road network of about 3.6 million KM. 71,000 KM (2%) of these roads are National Highways(NH) and about 130,000 KM of roads are state highways. National Highways share 40% of the total road traffic.

India needs to achieve the target to be a world economic power despite huge difficulties and hindrances.
