Mumbai: Income tax department conducted raids on IPL franchisees on April 21. There were IT raids on the offices of Kolkata Knight Riders, Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Owners of Kings Eleven Punjab and Rasjasthan Royals are also under investigation. All these happened following raids on IPL and BCCI office. Huge amount of money is involved in cricket and especially IPL. Income tax department also imposed cases against IPl franchisees under FEMA for violation of the rules regarding foreign currency transactions.
Surprisingly Income tax department excluded Mumbai Indians and its owner Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, Reliance industries from the raid. Perhaps the department did not dare to touch the industrial giant.
People feel politics behind this. Mukesh Ambani said to be close to congress, the ruling party of India. IPL controversy has become the biggest political issue in India.
In between, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh called papers related to IPL and seen those.
