Luggage Eye ~ Work of Airport ~

All this fuzz about stranded travellers stuck at international airports because of Iceland Volacno AshAsh Cloud, reminds me of a circumstance where I was myself stuck at Mascate Airport, 2 years ago! However, it had nothing to do with any flight distrbances or Volcano Ashes...the only thing to blame was...irresponsible drinking!!

In 2008 I missed my plane from Mascate, Sultanate of Oman to Tunis. My plane was at 9 pm. I prepared my luggage in the afternoon and thought I still had enough time to drink a few beers at the hotel bar. It was about 5 pm. As I drank a lot and met a few friends with whom I talked, I just forget my flight. It was only at 8.30 pm that I remembered. So I told my friends, One of them, who had a new 4 wheeler car, proposed to take me to the airport as quickly as he could possibly drive. so we went. Unfortunately we arrived too late. Too much traffic! I had no money, Only some change in my pocket. I bought a coffee from the machine. I spent 3 nights in the airport, until the next plane arrived. One night I slept on a bench outside of the airport. I was lucky my luggage was not stolen. I could not go back to a hotel! I had no money!!!

Hey, two years later, you are alive -- and you made it home with all your luggage -- so that's good news. If you want, you can drink to that! (Oh, here we go again...)
