The name Tony Dorsett is synonymous with American football. Born in Rochester, Pennsylvania in 1954, Dorsett was the first running back to gain over 6,000 yards in Division I-A according to answers.com, and is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He won the Heisman Trophy as the best college player of 1976 while leading the University of Pittsburgh to a national championship.
Dorsett was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the 1977 NFL Draft and played with them through 1987. In his rookie year, he rushed for 1,007 yards and 12 touchdowns and was named Dallas Cowboys.of the Year. He was the first player to win the college football championship one year and the Super Bowl the next, when the Cowboys beat the Denver Broncos 27-10 to win Super Bowl XII.
