The two-day event, which is considered the largest FPS cycling race in South Florida, will reportedly offer the largest total race purse of any race held in South Florida.
A 3-4 mile circuit kicks off on April 10th at the BankAtlantic Center, 1 Panther Parkway, in Sunrise, at 8 a.m. The Time Trial starts at 4:00 p.m. the same day.
On Sunday, April 11th, the Criterium will start at Esplanade Park, 400 Southwest Second Street in Fort Lauderdale, at 8 a.m.
"Last year's first annual event was a huge success – bigger than we ever could have imagined," Pat Patregnani, founder of Team zMotion, said in a public statement. "We're proud to say that it's now the biggest FPS cycling race in South Florida. We are expecting more than 1,000 racers, family members and friends to be in attendance this year."
Road racing takes place in Florida from February through October, according to the Florida Road Cycling Association, which supports and overseas the promotion of all cycling events in Florida. The FRCA provides a cycling rule book, getting started tips, information on course requirements and more.
Riders in the Sunrise Classic will compete by category for points and prizes for a chance to be recognized on the podium. The Sunrise Classic is a part of the USA Cycling national ranking system and the Florida Point Series. Participants can register online at zMotion.org, as well as view photos of past events and view a calendar of future events. On-site registration begins at 7:30 a.m. each day.
Races will be held rain or shine. Other family oriented activities will include face painting, balloon animals, kids bicycle races and a visit from the Florida Panthers’ mascot Staneley C. Panther. In addition, local restaurants will be offering special race day lunches. Tarpon Bend in Fort Lauderdale will host a post-race party on Sunday at 3 p.m.
