Afghan fighters engage in peace talks with Kabul

First round of peace talks has begun among the Afghan President, Hamid Karzai and representatives of the militant Hizb-i-Islami. No final deal has been made but it has been announced that the talks will further continue. This first round of peace talks between Karzai and Hizb-i-Islami were a face to face public negotiation held in Kabul. The Hizb-i-Islami group is led by former Afghan President Mr. Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.

Hizb-i-Islami is although a small group than the Taliban but this group is involved in insurgent activities in the four provinces of eastern Afghanistan and parts of the north. If the peace talks are successful it will encourage many other Taliban members make their own peace deals with the Afghan government. The 3-day peace talk process among the Afghan governemt and Hizb-i-Islami ended with out any concrete results.
