A girl student appearing in her Class 10 examinations was strip searched by the invigilators. They suspected that she was carrying slips of paper on her person with the intention of cheating in the examinations. The strip search did not yield any positive result. The girl is in her teens and would be carrying the scar of humiliation throughout her life – one just cannot strip search such a grown up girl, it is just not done in a civilized society. The traumatized girl could not continue with her examinations and reported the matter to her parents – they held a demonstration in front of the principal’s office. The Principal apologized for the unwanted incident. But, is an apology sufficient? She was appearing for her English paper of the UP Intermediate Education Board from a college in Ghaziabad.
