I watched today as President Obama sat down with FOX News Reporter Brett Baier for an "Exclusive Interview". I have attached the Interview via Youtube.com links to this article for those who may not have seen it.
Honestly, I was surprised the President didn't end the interview sooner, based on what I perceived to be the outright rudeness displayed by Brett Baier. I found the disrespect of the President to be offensive. I take no issue with those who disagree with the President on policy or issues, however, there is a proper way in which to conduct an interview with the President of the United States, and Brett Baier would do well to take a lesson from FOX News The Factor television show hostwhen it comes to proper interviewing skills.
The questions posed seemed slanted to the overall agenda of FOX News, and this ridiculous focus of 18,000 emails Brett chose to focus on and consistently interrupt the President without allowing him to even answer a question fully, was the most rude tactic to date I have ever seen from any reporter. The President referenced that he receives over 40,000 emails per day from people across the Country who are concerned about their current Insurance or lack of Insurance situations.
I sent one, actually several, of those emails that the President references. Recently my two youngest children were very, very ill as were the rest of my family. The youngest two however, were so sick that we needed to take them to the Urgent Quick Care Center run by the UMC here in Las Vegas, NV. We had insurance, however we did not have the $50 per child co-pay that the Insurance we carry requires for visits to Urgent Care Centers. Emergency Room visits co-pays are $100. We asked to be billed for the co-pay, because the next pay cycle was a week out for my husband and I am disabled and only receive disability income once monthly. The UMC Quick Care Facility decided that they would only treat my 13 year old and not my 10 year old because we did not have the co-pay and they deemed my 13 year old more sick to qualify for co-pay billing. My sick 10 year old who was running a fever, suffering from diarrhea, complaining of ear pain, and coughing as well - she was not sick enough for us to be billed for the co-pay so she was left untreated and told to go see our pediatrician the next morning!
My 13 year old was diagnosed with severe bronchitis, a return of his Asthma, and given breathing treatments, shots, and so many expensive prescriptions that we had to clean out every last penny in our bank account and borrow money just to purchase the needed prescriptions. He was out of school for nearly 2 weeks. My 10 year old, and my husband were treated at our primary care physicians office a few days later when we were able to get the appointment, and they both were diagnosed with severe bronchitis as well and my 10 year old with a sinus and ear infection. She was made to wait, even though we had insurance through my husbands employer, simply because they were not willing to bill for the co-pay.
This is one of the 40,000 letters per day the President was referencing in this interview. I sent it to him because it is OFFENSIVE that a sick child who is INSURED is turned away because of lack of a CO-PAY! It is more offensive that a sick child would be turned away for no insurance. This is why people turn to Emergency rooms for medical care when they have no insurance and who can blame them? My kids, both of them missed so much school from this illness, and it kept nearly our entire family bedridden for just over 2 weeks.
Something must be done to fix the Health-care Industry in this Country. More and more everyday I see it first hand, I hear about it first hand, and I am disgusted by it all. It is shameful the way people are treated by medical professionals, by insurance companies, and something needs to be done. I have actually read all of the proposed legislation and I have been writing about it from the beginning. I have had issues with some parts of it, but overall I have to say I am for Health-care Reform and I am for it now. I am sick and tired of watching my children, others children, and people in general be abused by a system that cares more about the almighty dollar than they do the health of a human being!
Pass the legislation! I signed's Petition today for the reasons I stated above, among others. I can keep listing reasons - such as a the Nurse-Practitioner or Junior Doctor, not sure what her title is who was so frustrated that she was working alone and backed up with patients that I was handed my own Pap-Smear kit and asked to go to the public bathroom and perform my own pap-smear, if I didn't mind, "since she was so busy". I have told my physician I am afraid to even set foot in his office ever again because of this woman.(and this is just one example of her patient abuse)
I honestly thought in the beginning that reforming Healthcare, and the Health Insurance Industry was not a great idea - but I have read every line of all proposed legislation and given all of our personal experiences and those I hear from others daily - I am now convinced it is something that needs to be done.
I am further convinced that FOX News has a fear mongering agenda that is not rooted in fact or truth, but set out to scare people for no other reason than political game playing.
Politics and the lives and health of people are not something that should be combined. Further, when you have the wonderful opportunity to sit down and interview the President of the United States please show respect to the Office. Allow the President to fully answer a question before you rudely interrupt with another berating question, again and again and again.
I did not vote for President Obama, and I have no problem admitting that. I like some of his policies, and I truly dislike some of his policies. I do however, agree that it is beyond time we do something about the Health Care Nightmare in our Country and I do believe that at all times the Office of the President of the United States is to be respected.
It is sad to see that FOX News does not share that same view of respect for the Office of the President, unless however it is a Republican holding the Office. All you have to do is turn on Hannity and hear him refer to the President disrespectfully as "The Chosen One" to discover this fact. It is sickening. Recently Hannity did a special on the money being wasted by the Obama Admin., but I wondered why he never did this same kind of special over the insane spending during the 8 years Presidentwas in Office? It is biased, slanted and offensive and beyond rude and disrespectful. Is it any wonder the President avoids interviews with all of them except Bill O'Reilly?
Pass the Health Care Reform Legislation and Brett Baier..brush up on respect 101 before your next opportunity to interview the President of the United States.
