Rajyasabha, Upper house in the Indian Parliament has passed women reservation bill today on March 9, 2010. It could not be passed yeaterday.
The bill has been passed with vote of 186-1. Only 1 vote has polled against the bill. BSP and TMC boycott the Rajyasabha during the poll.
It is to be remembered that the ruling party Indian National Congress, main opposition party BJP and CPI(M) were supporting the bill where as SP and RJD were opposing the bill. JDU had dual mind regarding women reservation bill.
Surprisingly, TMC did not support the bill and boycott the Rajyasabha. Mamta Banerjee, leader of TMC told later on that the Government had not taken them in to confidence before presenting the bill. TMC was in support of the bill till yesterday. Sonia Gandhi, informed in an TV interview that Mamta Banerjee was very enthusiastic about the women reservation bill. She told that she had surprized with the decission of Mamta Banerjee.
