A female Tacoma School District teacher was shot and killed before the start of the school day in Tacoma, Washington.
The Birney Elementary School, located at the 1200 block of South 76th street, closed classes today after the shooting. There were few to no students in the school at the time of the incident.
The unnamed gunman fled the scene and was fatally killed by the police a few blocks over at 166th and Canyon.
UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Special Education Teacher, Jennifer Paulson, 30, and was shot by the man who has been stalking her, Jed Waits of Ellenburg.
Paulson had filed a protective order in 2008 when Waits showed up at her school and sent flowers when she never told him anything about her work or home life. Waits showed up at the school again last Friday and Paulson called police from her car but did not go home, so he wouldn't know where that is.
Waits was arrest on that day but posted bail.
Paulson's father told authorities that Wait went to college with their daughter but there was never any romantic relationship between them, Jennifer had also written that in her protective order as well.
Waits was killed in a shoot out with the police shortly after fleeing the school.
