Twelve civilians have been killed during a major US-led military offensive against Afghans (Pashtuns/ Taliban) in southern Afghanistan. A large number of other people were also wounded.
According to AFP the civilian deaths occured when US/NATO fired missiles/rockets landed on a house during the ongoing offensive.
By all indications the ongoing offensive in this strategic Pashtun /Taliban stronghold will Only result in civilian casualties as the taliban fighters have already dispersed to adjoing areas in Pakistan and other border districts. They have vowed to carry on gurilla fight once the US/NATO troops atrengthen their positiin in this district.
The only ones remaining there are the old and infirm apart from some civilians who have refused to move out despite repeated calls from authorities to empty the town before the assault from US/ NATO forces.
