Luger buried amid new controversy

As you know, He was going around a turn known as 50/50 as you stood a 50% chance of making it. He lost control at 90 mph and crashed head first into a pole. When I first wrote this it was breaking news and crushedhe Georgian team was goingto go home. All luge teams are meeting to decide if it is safe to continue on what has been called the worlds fastest course after already 12 crashes.

He was airlifted to a Hospital but efforts to revive him have failed. Olympic luger dies in training crash

I was up at 4:AM this morning and last I heard the entire Olympics was somber and all teams were evaluating whether to compete on this track or not. The remainder of the Georgian Olympic team will compete in his honor but the mood has been set.

The story of Nodar Kumaritashvili Rest in Peace!

If you can watch the actual crash video please do and realize there is no way the accident was his fault. Crash video

So far 12 accidents and that particular turn is known as 50/50. I just watched the footage of the crash, damn! I refuse to believe those braces are like solid steel and right above the run.

This is not after thought only common sense to make it solid steel but anything above the run should just be decoration it serves no functional purpose. That was tragic and senseless!

Saakashvili dismisses luge accident as Kumaritashvili's fault

* I just heard Kumaritashvili's body has arrived home in the Republic of Georgia amidst National mourning for their fallen star!

I heard on MSNBC that just prior to the accident a foil had been put on the track to prevent melting, Nodar was not aware of it and was blinded by the reflection. I have not found a link for the story yet.

One or two other luge athletes were injured yesterday during practice runs also. Some have suggested it is too fast..others are looking into possible engineering faults in the design. None-the-less..it is a truly dangerous sport screaming down hard ice at speeds of up to 90 miles oer hour! A sad pre-start to the Games! :-(

I agree Joe! Watching the skiers can be scary as they throw themselves like begging for disaster trying to beat the record. It is getting nuts but what to do?

I thought they were going to compete in honor of the fallen athlete.....

I don't know which is more tragic, the luger's death or this sorry excuse of a report that says the "Georgia team has gone home", which is totally untrue. Anyone within listeing distance of a TV or radio knows that fact.

It has mispellings and a total lack of grammarical composition, without proper use of commas or regard for fragmented sentences. I have read your garbage before, but this is too much. Do you just make up your facts as you go? You should be embarrassed that almost 4,000 people wasted their time to read this sloppy article.

Just goes to show the Olympics, as with politics and politicians, has lost its way.

Oh, wait, aren't the Olympics and world politics one and the same - at least since the turn of the century? I mean, winning at all costs no matter how many lives are risked in order to claim dominion, isn't that what politics, and the Olympics are really all about. And the ad revenues and contracts for the telecasts?

Not the spin of world harmony, since it is the medal count that truly counts?

Asher there initial reponse of course was to be crushed. I was listening to their trainer who could not speak. I last heard that they and everyone else were evaluating what to do or to use the run at all, It is 4:40 AM but I am waiting to hear what is next.

Ross I never thought about it but you're right, everything in life is the same right to the weapons and the way people can die. I wrote about it a few days back but did you see our new weapon of the future, metal storm? Google it, scary as hell!

I hope that the sides are raised or more netting even put up to prevent this from happening again. Such a sad moment

This is not after thought only common sense to make it solid steel but anything above the run should just be decoration it serves no functional purpose. That was tragic and senseless!

He would have just flown in the air and suffered a lot less injury and would still be alive. I was sickened when they showed it on TV and heard his head hit. What is wrong with us?
