The last weekend in January mother-nature brought over a foot of snow in some parts of Virginia Beach and the Tidewater area. Many businesses were closed and there was a shortage on snow shovels, salt, sand, and bird seed. It started snowing in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 30th and it did not let up all throughout the day. Snow plows and trucks filled with Road Salt and sand were brought in from Maryland to service the major road ways. No sooner did the trucks lay down the salt and sand on the roads, more snow fell. Come Sunday, more people were out on the roads for Sunday services and long awaited trips to the grocery stores and pharmacies.
On Monday and Tuesday area schools were closed. Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010 most schools were open but were on a 2 hour delay due to icy and impassible roads. The question on the minds of the children are when they will have to make up for these 2 snow days worth of missed school. They are hoping that it does not affect their Spring Break plans.
According to the news station this Wednesday mroning, more snow is on the way for the area. Many are just waiting to see if everything will shut down again or if it will be mixed with rain and will not stick to the ground.
