Could it be that the world has a hero in Westminster, a Member of Parliament? Yes it is a rare gem to find a hero amidst the varying levels of Members of Parliament (MP), with reputations of self-centered greed and political agendas. Many world citizens have lost their hope of any good to be found in UK leaders. The rare leader in Westminster is Andrew Mackinlay. He does have one flaw, he has quit his job as an MP. His reason for resigning is exactly what makes him so remarkable but it is also exactly why the world cannot spare him.

Andrew Mackinlay of the UK Labour Party has been a Member of Parliament for Thurrock since 1992. Mr. Mackinlay is also a Senior Health Development Manager and has taken an interest in the overseas territories and foreign affairs. In fact, Mr. Mackinlay is a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee on Overseas Territories.

The voice of reason with respect to the Overseas Territories, he has consistently been the one to stand up for the rights of the under-represented. Mr. Mackinlay has fought for land safeguards for islanders, safeguards for law-changing procedures in the territories, and proper representation of the territories to ensure democracy. He has stated, that absence of a proper process with regard to even the removal of a judiciary is a violation of the hallmark of democracy. He has fought for the rights of islanders in territories and has called for continuity for decisions fighting against UK's unilateral changes, particularly without the voice of the people in the territories.

Mr. Mackinlay does not have any fight left in him, it seems. He has been called "disillusioned with the direction in which parliament is headed and has become frustrated at the inability of his fellow MPs to hold the executive properly to account."

The final straw appears to be Mackinlay's fight with Westminster to block the extradition of a boy with autism who hacked into a United States government data base. Mackinlay resigned over the matter and will officially step down at the next election.

The people of Turks and Caicos, UK overseas territory in the Caribbean, is now calling for Mr. Mackinlay to take a closer look at the problems resulting from UK's direct rule there. In August 2009, the UK took direct governance of the islands resulting from an UK inquiry into corruption.

The happenings in Turks and Caicos is a matter of particular world import. In November 2009, UK announced its permanent installation of the islands' governance. The people's autonomous constitution has been taken. The Judiciary has been taken. The constitutional right to trial by jury was taken from the people. All elections and voting on any government decisions have been taken. Many citizens in the islands contend that UK's actions of taking direct governance was hasty at best and a partnering plan could have been made, preventing the abolishment of the peoples' democratic rights. The people of Turks and Caicos note that the UN has condemned UK's actions in Turks and Caicos.

Civil rights violations are also a world concern. Pubic health services were originally set by the former Premier, Michael Misick, who was abruptly investigate for corruption by the UK by virtue of complaints from the opposition political party. This program was designed to be a state run health care program. The GDP of Turks and Caicos is off the charts (around $600 million per annum). As such, the health care was to be paid from the state revenues for which the UK governance has since stated will come from the direct monthly contributions by the people and be made mandatory. The services are yet many months, if not years, away. This is causing a humanitarian crisis for the people resulting from this direct tax.

As it is, the UK has caused the ousting of major resort developments that were accused also of corruption, yet many legal analysts contend had been working under the colour of authority of the past government. The closing of these holiday resorts have caused a great deal of impact on the economy. It has caused mass unemployment, waning of foreign investor confidence, lack of revenue from tourism spending and overall lack of creation or support of local businesses.

There is also a Crown land manipulation crisis in Turks and Caicos. Many lower economic-class families have been forcibly removed from their homes which were unwittingly built on Crown land. This has caused a further humanitarian crisis and homeless population.

The people of Turks and Caicos are calling on Mr. Mackinlay to take a closer look at the crisis facing Turks and Caicos. Mr. Mackinlay's vast experience with foreign affairs and his reputation "as one of the most hard-working MPs at Westminster and has admirers on both sides of the house", makes him the ideal candidate to help the world work out the situation and loss of democracy in the islands. In fact, many claim that Mr. Mackinlay is the last hope for help, his time in parliament now fleeting. The people of Turks and Caicos are hoping for one last maverick move by Andrew Mackinlay.

The other comment that you made making fun of the autistic boy was more representative of you Shaun.

Shaun Malcolm: since you have no comment on the content and are using an autistic boy to make irreverent comments, you have no credibility. Everyone in Turks and Caicos thinks you're an idiot. Why you have UK's ear is beyond everyone's comprehension.

People of T&C, do not give up. Freedom is near. Keep fighting.
