The homicide rate in New Orleans was recorded at 173 victims compared to 179 homicides in 2008 and 210 homicides in 2007. With the city's population on a steady increase since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The New Orleans newspaper however reports that the homicide rate of New Orleans is higher than other major cities in America.
