It took six months and $300 (US) for Fede Alvarez, an advertising professional from Uruguay to produce a really cool, short film employing giant robots, UFOs and mind blowing special effects. And, when the video was uploaded on YouTube it not only went viral but fetched Fede a Hollywood deal worth a mammoth $30 million - all in 5 days flat.
The short video film titled "Ataque de Pánico!" (that's "Panic Attack!" in English) is four and a half minutes of unadulterated mayhem. The video starts off by showing a kid by the riverside playing with his toy robots. Suddenly the little boy sees a phalanx of giant robots descending upon and laying siege to the city of Montevideo. As if that's not enough, there are the flying saucers and the fighter planes joining the CGI humanoids on their dark mission.
If the aim of the video is to depict unprecedented destruction it doesn't fail on that count. The overall destruction is of the order that can leave even the real-life 911 happening paler in comparison. Imagine a giant robot walking up to the 'twin towers' and blowing them to smithereens from a close range with the precision of guided missiles! Not to mention of fighter aircrafts dashing into imposing structures and leaving just a pile of rubble and debris.
It is only to be expected that men and women are found scurrying around madly like scared rats. The effect of it all is incredibly awesome and before long the city of Montevideo is all engulfed in giant flames!
The video has a Hollywoodish polish to it and it is no wonder that the esteemed film maker Sam Raimi has come forward be convert it into a full length blockburster. Raimi's Ghost House Pictures has just sealed a $30 million deal with Fede and for all those who have watched / will watch the clip above, the big screen experience should be one helluva experience.
