She hails from Northern British Columbia; from Haida Gwaii to Hundred Mile House and all the long highways in betwixt. Like Kris Kristofferson's "Pilgrim" she's a poet..she's a picker..and she's a pusher; pushing herself from Lethbridge legions to small town coffee houses in search of the elusive golden chord. Her voice is funky and shrill; sometimes country..sometimes bluesy and often choosey. She sings like Sarah MacLachlan and writes a bit like Joni Mitchell. She sings what she believes, and, like Merle Haggard, she sings herself back home.
Home is on the Queen Charlotte Islands...misty, mythic islands fog-bound and Haida hiding off the west coast of Canada. She is a health practitioner there with 3 teenage kids. She is a "country girl" at heart with a Restless Soul singing of Love and loss; loggers and unchartered waters; tree-huggers and herbal teas. She aims to please. She has a voice like Janis Joplin and a life like Waylon Jennings....pickin', singin' and draggin' her melodic memoirs down the long & lonesome road that many have trod before her. Please enjoy Michele Botel..... She is worth a listen..or two.
