The Beacon challenges The Torch's motives - Political crisis in Turks and Caicos

Good people of Turks and Caicos, I am dumbstruck by the message of The Torch in its open letter to the Sun. The Torch explains, in his open letter to the Sun, his arsenal, his tricks with ponies and his back-handed applaud to TCI Journal. All of those things are exactly the problem in TCI (Turks and Caicos Islands).

The Beacon, however, agrees on this point made by The Torch, "The time is ripe for the advancement of civil rights in the TCI". Though, we ardently disagree on the actions that go hand-in-hand with that result.

For argument's sake, The Beacon is not going to assume that The Torch is part of the TCI Journal gang. The Beacon is further not going to assume that The Torch seeks to motivate a break down of civilized society in Turks and Caicos. However, The Beacon is prepared to believe that The Torch wields its combustible flame to set ablaze the reputations of both the PDM, the PNP and now the interim UK government.

The Beacon is also prepared to believe that seeing an end to all political parties means that The Torch and TCI Journal have another political party in mind to replace the others.

The Beacon further illuminates a seemingly master scheme by TCI Journal involving the degradation of political parties, the use of the UK to undermine local leaders, an imminent overthrow of the UK government using the "power of the people" and "civil rights" and then slipping in a new political party. How quaint.

Does The Torch believe that TCIslanders are naive? A forced and artificial political party using UK's greed against them in the end by slowly manipulating the UK's worth after maligning all other viable leaders? The Torch has no confidence in the ability of the people of Turks and Caicos to make independent judgements and observations in earnest based on information and facts.

The Beacon smells the wretched gas that ignites The Torch's flame. On the one hand, The Torch criticizes TCI Journal for its failure to publish its more in-depth attack on Anthony L. Hall and local TCI lawyers, but then conveniently slips in its attacks in spite of the TCI Journal. After all, the TCI Journal should be condemned for censoring the loud-mouthed Torch. On the other hand, how responsible of TCI Journal to censor The Torch. The Torch wanted to publish more divisive attacks for which TCI Journal showed heroic restraint.

Here is a message of truth for The Torch, the people of Turks and Caicos will never be stupid enough for this game playing. The problem with individuals full of conceit and arrogance is an unavoidable assumption by the offenders that everyone is stupid and they are geniuses.

The Beacon will amuse The Torch by providing a perspective and a counter-point to The Torch. In the first place, for the last 20 years, the UN (and EU and CARICOM) has resolved that the UK was to have merely a partnering relationship with Turks and Caicos and its other territories. The UK never had authority to over-throw TCI's government. That is why the UN made several resolutions for the UK to withdraw since August. The fourth committee of the UN for Decolonisation only allowed UK "territories" to exist in conjunction with UK's promise of granting self determination in those territories.

America severed its ties to UK by making its own constitution, "of the people, for the people and by the people". "The people" did not include a country, continents away, which was mismanaging the people's needs.

How did Jamaica gain its independence from Great Britain? Since we have such strong historical ties to Jamaica (until it splintered off to become its own nation) we learn the lessons of sovereignty from that island nation. In 1961 Jamaica wrote its own Act of Independence and put forth a referendum, for its removal as a territory, to the Parliament and the Queen. In the end, Jamaica gained its independence the following year, http://www.moj.gov.jm/laws/statutes.

The people of Turks and Caicos have a right to self determination. The people who live here know best how to preserve the island culture, history and resources. The people are the one's with a vested interest in TCI's future.

Good people, do not be side tracked by The Torch, TCI Journal, their divisive comments and other nonsense. This is a time to stay together and be united. We need a leader to champion the charge for the future of TCI. This leader needs to be inclusive, conciliatory and brave. This leader cannot be divisive, create discord and false public opinion. We need to find a leader who encompasses our values. Could new and viable leadership be had by one of the existing political parties? TCI Journal and The Torch say not. But what say you? WE are the people, not TCI Journal, The Torch and not the UK.
