Obama has announced he is deploying 30,000 troops in early 2010 for supporting the existing US led coalition in Afghanistan. He believe that US will defeat Taliban with aditional 30,000 troops in 18 months. On the other hand the defense secretary Robert Gates said that US need more than 30,000 troops in Afghanistan. Gates need at least 3,000 additional intelligence personal, engineers for road-clearing support, and other assistance.
The Gates proposal base on Iraq surge on 2007 when US add more 8,000 troops beside 21,000 troops.
General Mac Chrystal also want to add more than 30,000 troops for securing Afghanistan and he said he want ask 40,000 additional troops. It must difficult for Obama to fulfill Mac Chrystal requirement.
With additional troops, US will have 100,000 troops in Afghanistan. Those troops including 32,000 troops deployed this year. US will need more 30 billion for the additional troops and it is not a wise decision amid the crisis.
Deploying more troops does not solve the Afghanistan problem. Unlike Iraq, Most Afghanistan people do not want to cooperate with US troops because they hate US troops.
